Globally, the growing threat of pandemics, environmental- and climate-related disease, terrorism, and natural disasters has increased the need for nurse leaders with a rich understanding of the international connectedness of the precursors, causes, and consequences of these challenges. The Global Health minor is offered in response to these societal needs, and seeks to train the next generation of nurses to rise to these formidable challenges.
Available exclusively to Penn graduate students, our Global Health minor is an opportunity to increase your knowledge of the world and the factors that impact the health of populations. We take a cross-disciplinary approach to help you integrate your knowledge of nursing and sociocultural influences to more effectively engage with patients locally, nationally, and around the world.
Open to students in full- or part-time Master’s or Post-Master’s study, this three-course concentration builds on three core dimensions of global health: sociocultural influences of health; methods for assessing population health; and coursework in a geographic area of interest to you.

At the interface of nursing and technology is nursing informatics, which focuses on managing information and communication technology to improve the health of patients and communities worldwide.
The emerging field of health informatics is growing in relevance and influence as technologies continue to improve. Our program focuses on concepts and issues surrounding technology and information management in today’s ever-changing healthcare environment.
This program integrates the science and practice of nursing alongside data and data management in such a way that uses information resources to improve the health of people worldwide. It focuses explicitly on working with the technology necessary to solve the heathcare problems of today and tomorrow. This minor is a perfect complement to advanced practice, administrative, and leadership Master’s programs.
For the minor you’ll take three core courses and one elective course from a list of informatics and systems courses at Penn.

The Nursing and Healthcare Leadership Minor program prepares nurses with the foundational business skills essential for today’s healthcare workers. On completion, graduates will develop a strong understanding of the business of practice management and be poised to take on leadership roles in the rapidly changing environment of the business of caring for patients.

The Graduate Minor in Nutrition Science offers nurses and nurse leaders the opportunity to integrate nutrition science into their practice and scholarship. Open to all Penn Nursing master’s and doctoral students, the minor provides evidence-based knowledge on how food impacts human health across the lifespan. With nutrition playing a critical role in disease prevention, management, and overall well-being, this minor prepares students to apply a “food is medicine” approach in clinical care, leadership, policy, and community health initiatives.
The minor consists of three courses delivered in an asynchronous online format, providing maximum flexibility for working professionals and students balancing clinical, academic, and personal commitments.
