Nancy P. Blumenthal, DNP, ACNP-BC is an acute care nurse practitioner who uses her clinical and leadership skills to improve patient outcomes. Well-versed in principles of advanced practice nursing, evidence-based practice and quality improvement, she has recently joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.

Teaching
Previously, Dr. Blumenthal taught within the undergraduate programs at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She has instructed and mentored graduate students and trainees within nursing and across disciplines.
Research
Widely published on topics of lung transplantation and pulmonary disease, Dr. Blumenthal has contributed to both nursing and medical literature. She lectures and consults regionally, nationally, and internationally on the expanding role of nurses and nurse practitioners within the field of transplant as well as on subjects pertaining to end stage pulmonary disease and transplantation. She also consults on strategic planning with a focus on nursing potential in solid organ transplant.
Clinical Practice
Dr. Blumenthal worked with the University of Pennsylvania Lung Transplant Team from its inception in 1991 through June 2019. She promoted interdisciplinary collaboration and nursing clinical expertise while contributing to significant scientific developments in advanced lung disease and lung transplantation. As a clinical leader and practitioner, Dr. Blumenthal cared for patients and their families throughout all phases of lung and heart-lung transplantation and advanced lung disease. In her role as Director of Clinical Practice & Senior Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Blumenthal shared responsibility for the strategic planning and development of the multidisciplinary program.
Selected Career Highlights
Among her many awards, Dr. Blumenthal has the groundbreaking distinction to be the first nurse to have a professorship in medicine endowed in her name. In 2006, the Robert M. Kotloff and Nancy P. Blumenthal Professorship in Medicine was established to celebrate and support physician-nursing collaborative practice in advanced lung disease and lung transplantation at the University of Pennsylvania. She has served in leadership positions for the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and has served two terms on the OPTN/UNOS Thoracic Committee. She has also served on the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Advisory Council on Organ Transplantation, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
