Global engagement and impact by Penn Nursing community members continued despite the pandemic. Beginning in early 2021 and continuing through early spring 2022, Partners In Health (PIH) hosted two Renfield Fellows of the Penn Global Nursing Fellowship Program: Barbara Doyle, RN, MSN, PMP, who had previously served as a healthcare Peace Corps Volunteer in Gabon; and Luca Koritsanszky, RN, MPH who had worked for more than five years with Lifebox Foundation, a non-profit for safety of global surgery. Their work contributed to the advancement of nursing leadership in Haiti and five nations in Africa and was supported by ongoing mentorship from Penn Nursing Faculty Mentor, Hanne S. Harbison, MHSPH, MSN, WHNP-BC, the Director of our Women’s Health Gender Related Nurse Practitioner Track.

Virtually incorporated into PIH’s core Global Nursing Executive Fellowship team, working with ten global fellows from six different countries. Their efforts included support developing a mid-term evaluation survey using accepted monitoring and evaluation (M&E) best practices, feedback on curriculum content, teaching assistance and one-on-one support with fellows. Their demonstrated skills and accomplishments were so impactful that PIH has recruited two more Penn Nursing Renfield Fellows to join their team in spring 2022.

*The Penn Global Nursing Fellowship (GNFP) program matches our skilled graduates and faculty to meaningful health-related projects of global organizations committed to serving vulnerable populations.
