Since early 2021, Partners In Health (PIH) has hosted Penn Nursing Alumni as Renfield Fellows of the Penn Global Nursing Fellowship Program. The work of the Renfield Fellows along with support from their Penn Nursing Faculty Mentor, contributes to the advancement of nursing leadership in the Americas and in Africa.

The current Fellow working with PIH is Katherine Renée Buhikire, DNP, MPH, CRNP, FNP-C who joined in August 2022. Her work is supported by ongoing mentorship from Penn Nursing Faculty Mentor, Alison Ercole, MSN, BA, CRNP, PMHNP-BC, who was also the inaugural fellow of the Penn Global Nursing Fellowship Program when it launched in 2018.

In late January 2023, Alison and Katie had the opportunity to travel to Rwanda to meet their PIH colleagues in person, as well as the many nurses who have been able to participate in the leadership program over the past several years. They were also able to visit the very impressive University of Global Health Equity.

*The Penn Global Nursing Fellowship (GNFP) program matches our skilled graduates and faculty to meaningful health-related projects of global organizations committed to serving vulnerable populations.
