Dr. Francisco began her nursing career thirty-five years ago. She graduated from St. Paul University, College of Nursing in Manila, Philippines, and emigrated to the United States from the Philippines. An avid believer in professional growth and development, Dr. Francisco obtained her Master’s in Science degree from Lehman College and Doctorate in Education and Organizational Leadership from Argosy University. Clinically, her experience spans acute, critical, emergency, sub-acute, and clinical education, as well as an academia for both adult and pediatric nursing practice. Dr. Francisco has served as a board member for the Greater New York of the New York State Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders (NYONEL). She is a member of NYONEL, the Philippine Nurses’ Association, and the Transcultural Nursing Society. Her leadership journey included being a Vice President of Clinical Services and Executive Director of Acute and Critical Care. Dr. Francisco is currently the Deputy Chief Nurse/Director of Nursing Operations at James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York. Dr. Francisco has presented nationally on topics related to cultural competency, nursing leadership, pressure injury, and HIV disclosure to pediatric patients. Dr. Francisco’s greatest strength is her Transformational Leadership style which focuses on innovative projects and initiatives that led to positive patient outcomes and improvement of nurse-sensitive indicators. She has been the pioneer in opening programs that expanded patient services, such as the neuroscience center, adult ventilator, hemodialysis, nurse residency programs, LEAN process in recruitment and retention, and the first Pediatric skilled nursing facility (SNF) in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Francisco’s areas of research interest include cultural competency and patient experience.
