Susan Haynes Little, DNP, RN, PHNA-BC, CPH, CPM, FAAN
Dr. Susan Haynes Little, DNP, RN, PHNA-BC, CPH, CPM, FAAN, is the Chief Public Health Nursing Officer for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, serving both the Division of Public Health and the Division of Child & Family Well-Being. With a distinguished 27-year career in public health, Dr. Little’s work has positively impacted maternal-child health, communicable disease, public health nursing practice, and other community-focused local, state, national, and international programs.
Dr. Little holds dual certifications in public health, validating her advanced public health nursing knowledge, experience, and clinical judgment. She uses this expertise while investing substantive efforts to improve public health and the public health nursing specialty, including serving as the appointed Practice Co-Chair of the revision workgroup for the American Nurses Association 2022 Public Health Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 3rd ed., as the current APHA PHN Section Secretary, and regularly publishing practice-focused peer-reviewed articles.
Dr. Little received a baccalaureate in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a master’s in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Duke University.
