Throughout her 34-year tenure in the School of Nursing, Dr. Malseed provided substantial evidence of her commitment to excellence in scholarship through teaching anatomy, physiology, immunology, and other foundational science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has made a tremendous impact on the academic development of her students through her skill in presenting scientific material in a dynamic way which is meaningful, valuable and well-organized.
Dr. Malseed’s contributions to the curriculum include the development of the SON/SAS joint Nutrition minor and the introduction of a seminar course on pain.
Dr. Malseed earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in pharmacy and pharmacology at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. In 1973, she made history by becoming the first woman to receive a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science which was founded in 1821.
Dr. Malseed is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as a Fellow of the American Association for Pharmaceutical Education. Her many honors include the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, the School of Nursing Teaching Award, the School of Nursing Undergraduate Advising Award, and Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Dr. Malseed also received the Honorary Alumni Award from the School of Nursing.
